USS Kidd, the same type of destroyer as the USS Wickes (DD-578).

Clyde was born in Stratton, Nebraska in 1926 and grew up in the area. At the age of 18, he joined the US Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific.

From 1944 to 1946, he served aboard the USS Wickes (DD-578), a Fletcher-Class destroyer. As a radar man aboard the vessel, he was responsible for operating and maintaining radar and electronic warfare equipment. While serving, he established lifelong friendships with his comrades. After the war, he and his shipmates stayed in touch for many years. In fact, they met up in Baton Rouge, LA to visit another Fletcher-class destroyer, the USS Kidd.

Clyde and his wife, Darlene “Petie“ got married on June 24, 1951. They were married 65 years before his passing at the age of 90. His legacy and memories will pass on to his very much-loved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
